Kauai offers excellent sea kayaking around Hanalei Bay and along the Na Pali Coast on the north shore. There are several small rivers that meander into the tropical rainforest, the most popular being the Wailua River on the east coast where several companies rent out kayaks on the river banks. Kayaks can be hired independently from all towns in Kauai so you can explore some of the smaller least visited streams that lead to hidden waterfalls and breathtaking scenery. Several specialist companies organise group tours.
Kailua on the east coast of Oahu is another popular spot for sea kayaking with the attraction being the tiny uninhabited offshore islands which make perfect picnic destinations. Soft adventure kayaking is offered down the Waimea River on north Oahu.
Paddling outrigger canoes is a popular tourist activity and can be found at Waikiki Beach on Oahu, at Wailua on Maui and at the large Waikaloa Resorts on the Big Island.
